Biography

Dr. Angelike Liappis is a graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and completed her residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Infectious Diseases at GW. After completing fellowship, Dr. Liappis joined the GW faculty and currently cares for patients in the Section of Infectious Diseases at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Liappis is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America and holds the rank of Associate Professor with appointments in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Tropical Medicine at GW.

Dr. Liappis serves as the Medical Director for the Washington, DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center Antimicrobial Stewardship Program and as Lead Clinician for the Capitol Healthcare Veterans Integrated Service Network Antimicrobial Stewardship Clinical Collaborative. She directs the Antimicrobial Stewardship Elective for Internal Medicine residents, serves on several university committees and is the faculty-mentor for the GW Medical Student ID Interest Group (IDIG). Dr Liappis serves as co-Councilor for Washington DC’s GW Alpha Chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.

Dr. Liappis mentors GW students, residents and fellows and teaches on the wards and in the pre-clinical curriculum for the medical school. In addition to her commitment to medical education, her interests include improving awareness of the unintended consequences of antibiotic choices and selection of multi-drug resistance bacteria, complications experienced by PLWH and exploring the role of inflammation in disease.
