Biography

Brian Choi is a Professor in the departments of Medicine and Radiology, Co-Director of Advanced Cardiac Imaging, Chief Medical Information Officer for the medical faculty of the George Washington University, and a board-certified cardiologist specializing in all modalities of non-invasive cardiac imaging. He has successfully led conversions of multiple EMRs to Epic, major upgrades of Allscripts TouchWorks, an implementation of Cerner Dynamic Documentation, a transition from pager-based communication to smartphone-based HIPAA-compliant secure messaging, and rapid expansion of telemedicine services during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Dr. Choi’s informatics research portfolio includes peer-reviewed publications on the use of embedded clinical decision support in electronic medical record systems, smartphone-based echocardiography, and mobile technologies to enhance delivery of care in the developing world. He has received grants from the NIH and industry to evaluate the use of mHealth apps for patients with cardiovascular disease. Dr. Choi has been invited to speak at medical conferences worldwide, and his research has been honored with an American Heart Association Merit Award for Young Investigators, the New York Cardiological Society Young Investigator Award, and a National Institutes of Health National Service Research Award.

Dr. Choi is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, a Director of RAD-AID International, and Managing Member of the GW Health Network Accountable Care Organization. He has consistently been named a Top Doctor by the Washingtonian since his first eligibility. He has been an abstract grader for major scientific meetings and an invited reviewer for leading cardiology publications.

Prior to his career in medicine, he developed new products for some of the world’s leading healthcare companies including Medtronic and Pfizer.
