Biography

Dr. Elizabeth (Elise) Ruckert’s physical therapy practice has included treatment of individuals with neurologic disorders across the health care continuum (intensive care, medical surgical care, acute rehabilitation, outpatient rehabilitation).  Her specialty is working with individuals following spinal cord injury and brain injury. Through post-graduate training and clinical practice at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center and the University of Southern California Keck Medical Center, Dr. Ruckert completed a neurologic residency program and obtained her board certification in neurologic physical therapy.  Dr. Ruckert has presented neurologic and stroke-specific interdisciplinary seminars and continuing education sessions for nursing, physical, occupational, and speech therapists in the greater Los Angeles area.  More recently, Dr. Ruckert obtained board certification in geriatric physical therapy.  She teaches in the neurology and geriatric management courses, as well as three courses in the clinical conference series.  She maintains clinical practice at MedStar National Rehabilitation Hospital.

With a specific interest in residency education, Dr. Ruckert has developed and now directs the MedStar National Rehabilitation Network & George Washington University Physical Therapy Residency Program.  In 2011, she assisted with residency education with the Neurologic Physical Therapy Professional Education Consortium. Dr. Ruckert is an active member of the APTA and multiple sections, and currently serves on the American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education Credentialing Services Committee.  Her primary area of scholarship is related to educational theory, instructional design, and learning.
