Dr. Woolstenhulme’s area of interest and training is in exercise physiology with emphasis in applied cardiorespiratory physiology for rehabilitation applications. In addition to his D.P.T. and Ph.D. training, Dr. Woolstenhulme completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, MD, in the Clinical Center’s Rehabilitation Medicine Department. As a fellow, he received training in non-invasive applied physiology methods with cardiorespiratory systems applications in interventional research. He also participated in several research protocols where he gained additional experience in spirometry, accelerometry, and computerized dynamic posturography. While training as a fellow at NIH, Dr. Woolstenhulme was tasked with establishing NIH’s first pulmonary rehabilitation program where he provided rehabilitation services for a variety of patients with advanced lung diseases in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Woolstenhulme is experienced in working with rare disease populations and has participated in both interventional research and rehabilitative clinical care for individuals with pulmonary arterial hypertension, interstitial lung diseases, bronchiectasis, hyperimmunoglobulinemia E syndrome, spinal-bulbar muscular atrophy, Hermansky-Pudlak syndrome, and traumatic brain injuries.
