Biography

Laura Abate is the Director of the Himmelfarb Health Sciences Library at George Washington University. She has extensive experience designing and delivering instruction in the discovery, evaluation, and application of health sciences information. Ms. Abate's work has focused on integrating an evidence-based medicine approach into information skills instruction, an approach which also informed her work providing just-in-time information support for the internal medicine residency program. She has prior experience developing an online collection, managing online access to the library's collections, and integrating and cross-linking access to different types of information. She has worked on integrating information sources and services in the clinical environment, and in delivering information via mobile devices. Ms. Abate began her career in research and reference and has collaborated extensively with faculty members in developing searches to support educational, human, and animal research projects. Ms. Abate is a course director on two electives for 3rd and 4th year medical students: Introduction to Systematic Reviews and Using Media to Share Health Information. She holds a certificate from the GWU Graduate School of Education and Human Developmentā€™s Master Teacher Leadership Development Program.
